Chipn
Chipn is a FinTech startup based in India. It automatically saves and invests your money every time you make an expenditure. Chipn aims to expose young adults to investing and educate them about their spending habits.
The Challenge
An in-depth design audit was conducted for the existing iOS app tounderstand the information architecture and identify areas for improvement. We highlighted all the issues and assigned them a priority based on effortand impact.
One of the identified issues is that the app was designed using two separate UI design systems. This creates a poor user experience, increases development time, and confuses users. While creating and implementing a consistent design system may take a significant amount of time, it would also have a highly positive impact.
Discover
We conducted in-depth research, including competitor analysis, to understand the industry benchmark for the fintech industry. This research included studying apps such as Cred, Betterment, Groww, Mint, etc.
This research enabled us to make better decisions regarding the user interface (illustrations, animations, micro-interactions) and the user experience (information architecture, navigation system, etc.).
Define
The core feature of the app is its variety of investment methods, which include:
- One-Time Investment
- Round-Up Investment
- Percentage Based Investment
- Recurring Investment
It is important to ensure a consistent user flow for all investment strategies. This will help users become familiar with these features quickly. The user flow for using these investment strategies is shown above.
Design System
The UI design process began by creating a consistent design system that encompasses various elements such as buttons, typography, color palette, dialogue boxes, and popups.
Additionally, the design system incorporates a light-mode UI with a sea-blue accent, which instills a sense of trust in the mobile app.
UI Design
The UI features colorful custom credit card templates that mimic real credit cards found in the user's physical wallet. Additionally, the core sections of the app, including onboarding and investment strategies, are filled with playful 3-D illustrations. These illustrations follow the latest design trends and make the app more approachable and appealing to Gen-Z users.
